THE HAMMOND MAYORAL DEBATE THAT NEVER OCCURRED

In advance of the November mayoral election in Hammond, many residents had questions about key issues such as tax caps and budget shortfalls, the closure of two branches of the Hammond Library, and why the vast majority of Hammond police and firefighters do not live within the city they serve. With little newspaper coverage of these major issues, the League invited Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. and challenger George Janiec to a public debate. Why did not the debate take place? Property Tax Caps in the State Constitution

Although the tax cap amendment did pass, it's important to know about its effects. The League has prepared a slide presentation debate to answer questions and inform voters and taxpayers about an issue often misrepresented and misunderstood.

Redistricting is happening now! Once drawn, the borders will remain for the next ten years. What is the process and how will it affect Indiana citizens?
